Margaret Moloney’s singing talent was first spotted when she was in primary school, in St Vincent’s Convent in Cork City. Her music teacher Sister Benedetta saw her potential and picked her out to be lead vocalist in the school choir. It was the beginning of a journey which took Margaret to various countries around the world with her singing and to the point where she is now with her aptly named first Album ‘It’s Time’.

In her early twenties Margaret went for lessons with renowned singing teacher Maeve Coughlin, in Cork and took part in her first show with a musical group. Called ‘It’s a Grand Night for Singing’, it travelled to several venues in Munster including St John’s Theatre in Listowel and the Triskel Arts Centre in Cork. Her first big break came when she went to audition for the Bunratty Castle Singers in the early 1990s. She spent a year with them as lead vocalist. During that time, she also joined pianist Jack Murphy, as part of a trio performing a show called ‘Broadway Melodies’. Her versatility as an artist really began to show.

In 1994, Margaret went to Dublin to audition for Veronica Dunne - who as it turned out shared her passion for horses. More than willing to take her on, Veronica said Margaret had a “fine instrument” and for nearly five years coached and trained Margaret to be a classical singer. Veronica believed Margaret could go all the way as an opera singer. However, in 1998, things took a slightly different direction as she was successful in securing the lead vocalist role with the musical show Rhythm of the Dance. For over a year she travelled around Scandinavia with the show, playing to packed houses in large concert halls.

Needing a breather after the tour, Margaret took up a position with Motivation Weight Management in Dublin, using her qualification in exercise studies. Singing wasn’t far from her thoughts however during that time. She got involved with traditional Irish Band Cian which took her around Ireland and to places as far flung as Tel Aviv in Israel - with a Late Late Show performance also thrown into the mix. A chance meeting at a wedding a couple of years later led to Margaret joining the group Girl Talk, which mainly performed at corporate functions and events. One of the Girl Talk highlights was singing with tenor Peter Corry in an ABBA Tribute Show in the Helix in Dublin. Around that time Musical Director of Rhythm of the Dance Cathal McCabe, commissioned Margaret to sing an original song and feature in a corporate commercial for Bailey’s - which was broadcast for ten years near the fountain in Leopardstown Racecourse.

Now, Margaret is ready to take things to the next level with her singing career. After a few years of country life in Cork, she felt a longing to get back to it. “Whenever I would sing for people, I would hear so many times that it’s a shame to have a gift like that and not use it. It is never too late to start again. It’s time", she says.
